Remember in 2005 before the PlayStation 3 released and Microsoft thought “HDDVD” (better sounding name) would win the HD format war? Yeah, releasing the standalone drive to watch high-definition was one of their worst ideas ever, including a price of a whopping $200. Before Microsoft pushed their online streaming media initiative along with popular purchasable movie apps including CinemaNow, Redbox and VUDU; new movie selection held the Xbox 360 back for years (literally, four years) until the initial roll-out of movie rentals.
Before online streaming closed down movie rental stores (Blockerbuster and Hollywood Video), PlayStation 3 was king for their BluRay player alone. Now with the new console set to release this year, we must see BluRay compatibility on the new Xbox, for those that want the most vivid HD experience’s streaming can’t provide.
