MyPlayer is a must play because of Spike Lee
With the exception of playing with Allen Iverson and the 2001 Philadelphia 76ers in traditional sense, the first thing we did surprisingly this year on NBA 2K16 was immediately start a new MyCareer path. Unlike past years, Spike Lee took over as director and has made the storyline legit through your career with Freak (you’ll hear the name same if you haven’t by now) from High School to the Pros.
The biggest surprise was each journey from HS, College and the NBA all feeling different and had its own style of gameplay for the level of competition. Our only gripe is that there’s no off-court storylines in high school or college, with the exception of making your college choice and decision to leave for the pros. Spike has relatable dialogue that doesn’t seem like year’s past of generic acting but manages to not go fully ratchet for the masses. From Freak’s parents, his sister CeCe (also fine in real life), and his bad chick that’s on her independent shit, the madness off the court is more entertaining than actually playing on the court at times. We’re curious if the Brooklyn mastermind will ever do more video games in the future, following the success of this one.
