One of the lost arts in virtual basketball has been the ability to block in NBA basketball games as a defender. It’s been very frustrating as a loyalist to the NBA 2K series to see how far the game has declined in quality since the release of 2K9, which was the year it finally overtook EA’s NBA Live series.
We were okay with the series trying to find itself for the next few years, but the last installment being NBA 2K13 was just too much for our liking. The blocking system had become the worst ever seen in sports games (even worse than NBA Live), which had some of us behind-the-scenes questioning whether to keep supporting the franchise.
Former Microsoft Xbox President, Peter Moore has finally got the sports division at Electronic Arts back into gear, with a totally new engine “Ignite” premiering this fall exclusive on next-generation Xbox and PlayStation consoles for NBA Live 14 starring Kyire Irving. 2K Sports has LeBron James featured on the cover for their upcoming title, but the King will only be able to sell so many copies if the game-play isn’t up to “2K standards” (once again).
We’re now intrigued to at least see the new mechanics that will revealed beginning in early September to hype the game. Stay tuned for more news!
