Nintendo NX in 2017?

With ramblings behind-the-scenes of the gaming community for Nintendo’s worst-kept secret ever, the Japanese-based company is planning to end production of is Wii-U console at the end of the year. According to a Nikkei report, the Big-N has already stopped making some of its accessories on the console, but is also planning to deplete its inventory before 2017. Speaking of which, new Nintendo President Tatsumi Kmishima spoke about the company’s upcoming Nintendo NX device, which will take a different route of their Wii home console series over the last decade.

The current plan is to appeal to their original consumer base with the pending NX portable release, whether its re-introducing 3D to the brand with virtual reality or completely reinventing the genre as a whole. The failure of the Wii U, in comparison to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, was definitely a wakeup call, so we’re not expecting Nintendo to stay in their current slump.

Prototype controller

In related news, a prototype controller for the upcoming Nintendo NX device surfaced online. While the rumor floated around for a few days, with the peripheral having a built-in screen we’re assuming for similar touch-screen mobile capabilities, the N quickly denied the device being real. However, to the picture’s defense, Nintendo did say the new controllers won’t resemble or look anything like from their past efforts. So, with Call of Duty publisher, Activision, rumored to have already aligned themselves with the Jap-brand, look for more surprises to surface throughout the summer.
