PlayStation 4 Launch Buyer’s Guide

Before we found out about the PlayStation 4 launch price at e3 last June, the original price for the console was slated to equal Microsoft’s Xbox One at $499. However, upon seeing all the negative feedback the console received during the event, PlayStation wised up this time around and didn’t put themselves in a bad spot, launching with the most expensive console of the market. The PlayStation Eye was set to be included with the launch (their version of the Kinect), but has repackaged it as a stand-alone accessory for $50.

PlayStation Move and PlayStation Eye were released on the PS3, but didn’t have the success the company wanted. Heading into the PlayStation 4 launch, the PlayStation camera (featuring two 1280×800px cameras), will be the consoles motion sensing input device, stepping into the realm of controller less video gaming. We’re not sold on it being better than the Kinect yet, but it’s a nice alternative to have when playing those exotic PS4 exclusives net year.

The DUAL SHOCK 4 controller will also be $50, which we’ll be picking one up for those face-to-face meetings against our closest friends and foes on the gridiron. The controller will feature a built-in two-point capacitive touch pad on the front of the controller and inputs for micro-USB ports to use headsets. Along with the redesigned joystick and trigger setup to improve our gaming experience, the controller will also feature SHARE and OPTIONS button. Start and Select have been merged into OPTIONS, with the SHARE feature being dedicated to players uploading videos from recent gaming sessions.
