Sony & Marvel Comics partner for new series ‘Powers’!
Last March, Sony Pictures Television announced plans to start their PlayStation 4 based digital platform, for new exclusive original programs. With Microsoft still having issues of finding backers for their Xbox Entertainment Studios (outside of Steven Spielberg’s Halo: Nightfall), Sony has aligned themselves with Marvel Comics to release an official TV series adaption of the legendary POWERS comic book series.
Over the weekend, the 2014 edition of New York Comic-Con was held and the forthcoming edgy dramatic series was one of the standout reveals. Novelist Charlie Huston and long-time director David Slade (The Twilight Saga: Eclipse) have been tapped to curate the official pilot and its following episode.
The uncut and uncensored spin-off centers on detectives Christian Walker and Deena Pilgrim, who work for a special homicide division named powers. In the midst of trying to distinguish superheroes and supervillains, the pair soon realizes the two entities aren’t that much different with corruption, murder and extortion all happening.
Look for POWERS’ official premiere this winter on PlayStation Network (free for PlayStation Plus members).
