THQ Sues EA Over UFC Video Game Franchise

After years of losing many franchises to Electronic Arts (see WCW/nWo Revenge), THQ has finally sued Electronic Arts. The last straw came from THQ’s recent loss of UFC video games to EA Sports last year after Dana White revealed a new UFC title at e3. While the game wasn’t one of the highest selling sports games, just being under the UFC umbrella helped THQ make some strides every year with their company.

Last year in June, EA Sports revealed it had purchased the franchise from THQ after UFC 3 failed to make sales goals significantly (blame your shitty servers and poor controls). The lackluster sales forced them to sign a deal with Electronic Arts, which they’re now regretting the move after EA’s big presentation for their upcoming UFC game. THQ is claiming UFC’s parent company Zuffa and Electronic Arts used inside information to broker a deal damaging their relationship before the sale. While the UFC franchise is worth $20 million, THQ settled with a sale of $10 million going into bankruptcy last winter; but are now looking for at least $10 million more in damages after settling.

EA and Zuffa have a PlayStation 4 and Xbox One “EA Sports UFC” 2014 title set for next spring. Adding on to the suit, THQ wants EA to relinquish all profits from the UFC franchise (good luck with that). You can view the full complaint paperwork after the jump.
