We’ve been watching The Knick ever since Cinemax released the pilot online for fans to get familiar. It started a little slow, much like a lot of TV shows, but the past few episodes have really explored characters John Thackery and Nurse Elkins. Together and apart. The show has also mildly dove into racism in the 1900’s, with Dr. Algernon Edwards making his name known at the hospital even after initial push-back from Thackery and his apprentices.
Thackery is an interesting character, who hangs out at after hours spots with prostitutes, gets high because his mentor made him a junkie, and somehow still pushes medicine forward. He and the group of doctors he works with have came up with numerous procedures that have helped save lives, even if their were casualties along the way.
For those who have been following the series, we’ve compared Dr. Thackery to DMX, because that’s the first rapper we thought after watching. Especially after the latest episodes. They’re both eccentric, misunderstood, aggressive, battle inner demons, etc.
For those up on the show, peep how certain Dr. Thackery instances compare to Dark Man X through five songs. It shouldn’t be said, but yes there are plenty of spoilers ahead.
