One new series that’s been receiving critical acclaim this summer is 50 Cent’s new drama, Power. Co-created by Courtney Kemp Agboh, the series gained significant popularity over the last few weeks, following its initial lackluster pilot ratings reception.

Nielsen revealed earlier this weekend, it reached new heights, with its finale seeing a drastic increase in ratings last Saturday, totaling to nearly 2.5 million viewers. This marked the highest viewership for a season ending episode for Starz since the April 2013 series finale of Spartacus: War of the Damned. The show was even recently renewed for a second season, which should give more incentive for new viewers to watch on-demand or during its Encore Black series replay starting Tuesdays at 10pm and 11pm.

Neilsen also revealed, the first season of Power became the most popular scripted series among African-Americans since The Wire in 2006; and is behind HBO’s Game of Thrones and True Blood for larger overall audiences. In comparison to its initial 8-episode run, season two will be receiving 10-epiosdes and we expect the number for future episodes to increase with the imminent renewal of season 3.
