Many writers and producers have tried to acquire the rights to tell the story of Cesar Chavez, but up to this point, only Diego Luna and Keir Pearson have been able to succeed. Cesar Chavez: An American Hero is an upcoming movie based on his life surrounding the infamous boycotts and strikes of the 1960s and early 1970s.
Starring Michael Peña, Rosario Dawson and John Malkovich, the film will follow the rise of the United Farm Workers union that helped braceros from Mexico. With much opposition, he organized the Delano grape strike, the Salad Bowl strike, and the 1975 Modesto march to bring rights to farm workers in Central California. His work still lives on and has brought better working conditions for migrant laborers across the U.S.
The film is set to hit theaters on March 28.
