It hasn’t even been a month since Spike Lee‘s CHI-RAQ hit theaters on a limited release run and the film is already hitting iTunes, Google Play and Amazon for purchase or rental as of today.
If you want to hold out just two months, the movie will be available for free to all Amazon Prime subscribers starting on February 4, which is probably when a lot of people will start watching it. Either way, this marks the first original movie on Amazon Video and the fact it’s coming to streaming services marks a turn-around that never happens with Hollywood distributors in today’s age.
The only time films make their way to streaming on demand this fast are when they’re Netflix or indie films. But this is something to keep track of going into the new year as it may become the standard in the foreseeable future.
