Its seems like the past couple of years many retired iconic NBA players have been stepping their business game up and finding strategic ways to cash in on their legacy. Last year, former New York Knick superstar center Patrick Ewing announced the relaunch of his independent shoe brand Ewing Athletics, with the first official release the “Ewing 33 Hi’s” becoming a very popular shoe amongst the sneaker community. Other players like big man Shaquille O’neal, Shawn Kemp, Gary Payton, and Grant Hill have also got into the mix, all working with their respective brands and past business partners to bring back many of their popular signature silhouettes from the 90’s.
Now another former superstar has decided to try his hand in the sneaker world, legendary Houston Rocket Center/ Hall of Famer, Hakeem “The Dream” Olajuwon. Hakeem has launched the DR34M Line , which consist of a wide variety of high quality Italian leather hi-top basketball sneakers, which The Dream set out to make a classy fashionable shoe for the big men on the court. All colorways are inspired by the Houston Rockets, and each shoe comes packaged with a custom DR34M Italian leather duffle bag matching the sneaker. The line also features a slew of luxury sports / lifestyle apparel such as suits,jeans, jackets, button-ups, polo’s, and much more.
In the video below, Nicekicks caught up with Hakeem “The Dream” Olajuwon to talk about the recent DR34M Footwear unveiling, and the differences between working with other labels to now running his own independent shoe and apparel brand. Olajuwon also gives some insight on a couple players he may be looking to sign to the DR34M Footwear Line in the future.
