Did The “Breaking Bad” Finale Live Up To The Hype?

Lydia Rodarte-Quayle, Todd Alquist & The Nazis

Since the moment we we’re introduced to Todd, it was clear to us that he would be one of the more interesting characters. He was a mix of ruthlessness that would put out the glock at any moment, but also seemed to have a certain strange calmness around him at all times. Whether Todd was learning to cook with Walt or letting the choppa sing, he always had viewers on the edge of their seats.

In the series finale we saw Todd and “his boo” Lydia try and set up Walt for what would eventually lead to the epic final sequence of the show. This however, all backfired for Todd as he watched his uncle and the Nazi goons go down to Walt’s clever gun-in-the-trunk device. The ultimate redemption was then thrust upon him when Jesse used the chains that Todd had been enslaving him with to strangle him to his death. For everything wrong that Todd did during his time on the show it was rather fitting that he went out in the ruthless manor that he was accustomed to.

Maybe the most satisfying moment of the entire finale, was when Lydia’s fate was served to her by the gawd Walter White. It had long been wondered who would be served the infamous ricin and in the end, Lydia had it added to her last ever order of tea. For all the bitchiness that Lydia delivered to viewers over her time on the show, it was all worth it when Walt broke the news to her about the ricin in that last phone call. She was high on everyone’s “hope they don’t make it list” and Vince Gilligan didn’t let the people down.

The main assholes and bad guys during the last season we’re Todd’s uncle Jack and his Nazi buddies. They took over Walt’s meth business when he was forced to go into hiding and enslaved Jesse to cook for them to keep up with the high standard of meth. During the final episodes, their ruthless ways really became evident, when they showed up to Walt’s cry for help and ended up killing Hank and Gomie, even against Walt’s wishes. Because of this and Walt ultimately feeling responsible for Hank’s death, it was clear that the final showdown would happen at the Nazi compound. Jack and Todd thought they had Walt on the ropes and we’re prepared to serve him a bullet to the head, but Heisenberg had different plans. Then the machine gun rang loud, and all the Nazi’s were taken out swiftly with one round of bullets. Walt even gave Jack his own medicine killing him much like Jack did Hank.

It seemed like a fitting end to their ruthless ways.
