DirecTV To Launch Streaming Service by 4th Quarter

Now that DirecTV is under the AT&T umbrella, it’s time they shake up the cable/satellite game. Apparently, the company has been working on a streaming service of their own, which will have some very aggressive price points. The platform will be called DirecTV Now and feature about 100 premium channels, as they continue ironing out deals with networks. AT&T CEO Randall Stephenson said they already locked up HBO and Disney.

The past few years have seen a migration of cable and satellite subscribers to either cord-cutting completely or to lower-tier services like SLING TV and Playstation VUE. DirecTV hopes to eat at that competition with their service.

Whether or not the service will allow more than one stream per household remains to be seen, but knowing AT&T, they will probably charge more for more stream availability.

Hopefully they don’t limit it to the same wireless network like Playstation VUE or current DirecTV customers. Because sharing is caring, right?
