Eddie Murphy Mocks Bill Cosby during First Stand-Up Routine in Nearly 30 Years

Eddie Murphy takes a swipe at Bill Cosby

Eddie Murphy has been having an itch to hit the comedy stage this year after taking an extended break away from the R-Rated crowds. Last night, Murphy accepted the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor and surprisingly mentioned fellow comic Bill Cosby, during his acceptance speech.

In wake of numerous sexual assault allegations over the last 12 months from the 78-year-old comedian, Eddie mentioned how Cosby has an award to – jokingly saying “You know you fucked up, when they want you to give your trophies back.” In previous months, Murphy said he declined not to joke about Bill during Saturday Night Live’s 40th anniversary special last spring, who he impersonated during his classic 1987 stand-up film, Raw. However, after a recent conversation with his long-time friend Arsenio Hall about the joke, he had a change of heart – citing Cosby is going to have to address the allegations at some point after he reaches his boiling point.

Whether or not this joke makes the final cut remains to be seen, but PBS is scheduled to air Eddie Murphy: The Kennedy Center Mark Twain Prize this November 23rd.
