Most of you out there might be familiar with James Brown, the founding father of funk, but might be in the dark about the rest of his life away from the number one hits on Billboard. James grew up in poverty in Georgia and served in prison for robbery before becoming “The Godfather of Soul.” The upcoming film Get On Up will chronicle his start as a gospel singer and his big break after his show Live at the Apollo, as well as how he became one of the most historic artists of all time.
The Tate Taylor-directed film will star Chadwick Boseman, Jill Scott, Dan Aykroyd, and David Andrew Nas and hits theaters nationwide on August 11.
