Google revealed their new tablet today at Google I/O, dubbed the Nexus 7. This ASUS-branded, WiFi-only 7 inch tablet with a 1280 x 800 IPS LCD resolution is the first device to run with Android 4.1, aka Jelly Bean. Under the hood, this device is running a 1.2GHz NVIDIA Tegra 3 quad-core processor, making it the first tablet on the market with a quad-core cpu.
Coupled with Google’s always expanding Google Play store, and your typical tablet features (1.2MP front-facing camera, NFC, Bluetooth, ect.), the Nexus 7 will sport 2 models, 8GB or 16GB, promising 8 hours of HD video playback & 300 hours standby. Wow. iPad killer we think not, but with the low price tag, one could say this would be aimed toward the Kindle Fire. Uh oh.
Starting today, you can order the Nexus 7 from the Google Play website, with the 8GB configuration for $199 and the 16GB unit for $299 with shipments starting mid July. Buying from the Google Play website also nets you a $25 credit to spend on Google Play media, apps, ect.
That new Jelly Bean OS though? Already? Wow. Skynet, I mean Google, doesn’t look to slow down no time soon.
