Google Will Now Encrypt Your Email Messages

In light of the NSA debacle spilling on to mainstream media, people have been questioning how secure our connections really are and how private our world has become. Many huge websites have come to the forefront of providing their users with more security (instead of selling their information to firms) and Google is one of them.

Today, the company announced that any messages being sent through their services are now fully HTTPS encrypted, meaning nobody can tap them through public WiFi or otherwise, besides your recipient. It doesn’t matter whether you’re on your computer, tablet or phone. They also vow to keep GMAIL available for access as much as possible, saying it was up 99.978% of the time in 2013.

Read an excerpt of what their announcement below.

Every single email message you send or receive—100% of them—is encrypted while moving internally. This ensures that your messages are safe not only when they move between you and Gmail’s servers, but also as they move between Google’s data centers—something we made a top priority after last summer’s revelations.

Do you really feel safer while maneuvering through GMAIL now?
