David Benioff and D.B. Weiss recently said the HBO hit series Game of Thrones would be delayed and wouldn’t be coming out in the spring like usual. Now the network has confirmed those sentiments and a date for when Season 7 will premiere has been set.
According to HBO, the new season can be expected in the summer of next year, thanks to a delay in production to accommodate winter shooting in various countries like Northern Ireland, Spain and Iceland. For years we’ve been hearing “Winter is Coming” and now it’s here.
“Now that winter has arrived on GAME OF THRONES, executive producers David Benioff and D.B. Weiss felt that the storylines of the next season would be better served by starting production a little later than usual, when the weather is changing. Instead of the show’s traditional spring debut, we’re moving the debut to summer to accommodate the shooting schedule.” – Casey Bloys, President of HBO Programming
With the announcement also comes the amount of episodes that Season 7 will contain, which happens to be seven, unlike the normal ten that past seasons. Get it? It’s the seventh season. There are seven kingdoms. Westeros has seven gods? Cool theme, GOT.
The news comes as the show earned 23 nominations at this year’s EMMY Awards. We can all expect the series to sweep multiple catagories and rack out with the accolades.
