The wins continue to come in for Dwayne Johnson, aka The Rock. Thursday, HBO announced they would be picking up his new football series Ballers for an entire first season. The show will be centered around the lives of former and current football players; and will star The Rock. It will also star Denzel Washington’s son, who has played professional football before in both the NFL and overseas. Production on the show is set to star later this year, and Johnson’s Pain & Gain co-star Mark Wahlberg will be handling executive production duties on the project.
Just from the premise of the show, this one is giving us flashbacks to the classic ESPN football show Playmakers; which was not looked highly upon by the NFL. It is unclear on how serious the content will get on this show; but knowing HBO, anything can happen. We will continue to update with more details, but between this and Hard Knocks, HBO is about to hold it down for all the football fans out there.
