Much like April 20 (4/20) for weed smokers in the U.S., there’s a heroin holiday in the Czech Republic. VICE traveled to Prague to explore what exactly goes down in the secluded fields when poppy seeds start blossoming.
Unexpectedly, heroin addicts out in the Czech Republic have found a homemade recipe for cooking their own heroin, taking the milk from poppies and cooking it in vinegar to extract the morphine from it, then injecting it themselves. This happens during the month when acres of vermilion bloom, as hundreds of junkies camp out and cook their own heroin to indulge for weeks and make some to hold them over for a while.
The most interesting part happened afterwards, when they took a vial of the heroin cooked to a lab to see how pure the smack really was. And their findings were hilarious. Peep how struggle it is to get high out in the streets of Czech Republic, below.
