That dreaded “link in bio” is almost dead as Instagram has took a step in the right direction. The only problem is, it won’t be live on the actual timeline, only in its “Stories” function.
The social network has announced that the new update will allow users to links out, use tags and/or mentions plus incorporate the Boomerang photo burst feature. Links will be available later this week, while the other two features will be available immediately.
Unfortunately, the links will only roll out to select verified users to begin with.
Chance The Rapper is actually supposed to be one of those people, so if you happen to catch his story, you will be able to swipe up and “See More” at the bottom of the screen. That will then pause the story send you to a browser within the app where you can explore whatever it is they link to and still have the functionality to return to the story. This means celebrities and entertainers will be able to link out to their own websites, interesting stories online, etc.
Tagged accounts will alert the user which you tagged and open up a DM conversation which will expire when the story does. People viewing the story will also be able to explore the account tagged to see who it is that was mentioned.
In other IG news, the app is also testing live video similar to Periscope and/or Facebook Live. So by the end of it it’ll really be called InstaSnapScopeLive.
