Whether you recognize it or not, we’re witnessing the end of an era and the start of a new chapter in late night television. Last night was Jay Leno’s last episode of The Tonight Show and his farewell was more than emotional.
As soon as he knew he had say goodbye, Jay’s eyes turned into tears and the audience heard a genuine speech that came from the heart. He shared that the only family he had left was at NBC after his real family passed during the start of reign and the past 22 years of doing the show were his best. But like all good things, they must come to an end. As much as he didn’t want to leave, he recognizes it was time to and gave his best wishes to a younger and more hip Jimmy Fallon.
Garth Brooks’ classic “Friends In Low Places” appropriately ended the show, and the last words we heard from Jay were “honey, I’m coming home.”
The torch has officially been passed (no Sochi Olympics).
