New Jersey native, Brooklyn-based artist KAWS takes his talents to the MTV offices, being enlisted for the redesign of the VMA’s iconic 30 year old Moonman award trophy. KAWS takes the original 13-inch chrome model and mixes it with his popular and well-known Companion character, changing some things around on the trophy to give it that fresh look. MTV has also gave KAWS the green light for designing the 2013 VMA award stage, which will feature a 60-foot version of the new and improved Companion Moonman.
In the video below, Kaws talks to MTV about the Moonman redesign and being recruited for this special project of putting his spin of the iconic trophy. The 2013 MTV VMA airs live August 25th and will take place at Brooklyn NYC’s Barclays Center.
