Is he innocent twice?
As you may have already caught, Netflix is looking to ramp up the original series in the coming year. They’re still not done with the ones in 2015, though.
On December 18, the streaming service will debut Making A Murderer, a 10-part true crime documentary series that questions how fair the justice system is. It explores the case of Steven Avery, a man who went to jail for 18 years for a sexual assault crime he didn’t commit. After all that time in prison, DNA evidence finally proved he was innocent and he was released on all charges.
Just two years and a $36 million dollar lawsuit against the city later, he was accused of another murder and is now serving a life sentence without the opportunity to pursue a civil case against the county for his wrongful conviction.
If you need a little background on the story before you watch, listen to this RadioLab episode on NPR featuring Penny Beernsteen, the woman from the original rape case.
