Imagine if Jordan brand was distributed through Adidas
Remember last spring, when it was revealed that a former Adidas employee passed on signing Michael Jordan in 1984 because he wasn’t a big man? Baffling, right? Well, his Royal Airness has finally addressed the rumors regarding his original shoe deal and revealed his original plans was to sign with the German apparel giant. In an interview with USA Today, former Nike chairman, Phil Knight, has been profiled for his contributions to lifestyle over the last 30 years and being instrumental in Michael Jordan making more money off the court – than on the court.
In 1988, Jumpman almost left the brand for Adidas in 1988 when his friends of the company former lead shoe designer Michael Moore and executive Rob Strasser departed to the 3 stripes. Before becoming a superstar, Jordan spoke out on having admiration for only Adidas and Converse in college, as well as never wearing a Nike shoe ever before his deal.
Take a look at Michael Jordan’s brief comments below.
“In all honesty, I never wore Nike shoes until I signed with Nike. I was a big Adidas, Converse guy coming out of college. Then actually my parents made me go out to (Nike’s headquarters in Beaverton, Ore.) to hear their proposal.”
