Ten Thousand Saints
One of the standout releases at the 2015 Sundance Film Festival was drama-film, Ten Thousand Saints. The project is set to have an unfortunate limited release, but will luckily reach the masses through video-on-demand tonight. Starring Ethan Hawke, Asa Butterfield, Emile Hirsh and Hailee Steinfeld, the comedy-drama focuses on a teenager from Vermont who moves to the East Village section of New York City with his father. Set in the 1980s, friends Jude Keffy-Horn, Eliza and Johnny, who are in a punk-rock band, form their own surrogate family.
However, once one of their friends dies from a drug overdose, things quickly change for the trio, as they must live out a straight-edge lifestyle to help 16-year-old Eliza make it through her pregnancy. There’s many hurdles in their way, however, as they also deal with the warzone of gentrification from the Tompkins Square Park riots.
