Concussion
The most controversial film releasing this entire year, is Will Smith’s sports drama, Concussion. Also starring Alec Baldwin and Albert Brooks, the film centers on the epidemic of former NFL players and their health from traumatic brain damage, during and while their retired from the gridiron.
In the film, Smith assumes the role of Dr. Bennet Omalu, who uncovers the truth about the athletes, through an autopsy on former NFL player Mike Webster. While examining the body, he comes across an unusual find, linking the brain deterioration from hits to Alzheimer’s disease. With other athletes facing the same diagnosis, Omalu’s mission in life becomes to spread his knowledge on the risk of dangers football players can have from on-field head trauma during action.
Surprisingly, the reviews have been subpar, but we’re sure the performance from Will Smith alone will keep Columbia Pictures in the clear of surpassing their $35 million investment.
