Starring Nick Cannon, Teyonah Parris, Wesley Snipes, Angella Basett, Jennifer Hudson, and Samuel L. Jackson, the motion picture touches on gang violence within some the city’s roughest neighborhoods on the Southside – more in particular Englewood. The film, which is a modern day adaption of the ancient Greek play Lysistrata by Aristophanes, centers on a gang member by the name of Chi-raq and his girlfriend Lysistrata, who has the ultimate plan of ending violence within the city. Simply, her plan is to convince every woman across the city’s roughest areas to withdraw themselves from the bedrooms and omit sex from their men until the senseless cycle of violence is ending. While there has been some complaints with the soundtrack, Spike’s holiday gem has been well-received among all critics, as viewers will have the next few weeks to watch this potential masterpiece.
