The Lady in the Van
British comedy-drama film, The Lady in the Van, was one of the stand-out titles at the Toronto International Film Festival last September. Luckily, Sony Pictures picked up the $6-million budgeted film tells a biographical story an elderly woman named Mary Shepherd, who develops an unexpected bond with local London Borough of Camden resident, Alan Bennett.
While temporarily allowing Ms. Shepherd to park her van in his driveway, Alan soon learns more about the eccentric homeless woman, who’s actually a former gifted pupil of the pianist, Alfred Cortot. After a collection of life-changing events, Miss Mary explains what led to her living in fear of arrest after an accident she believes was her fault. While the biographical tale may not look the most intriguing to watch among its box office competitors, the storyline and possibility acting may be the best of the new releases.
