Pawn Sacrifice
The most intriguing film this weekend may very well be Edward Zwick’s directed-and-produced film, Pawn Sacrifice. Originally premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival over a year ago, the project stars the likes of Tobey Maguire, Peter Sarsgaard, Liev Schrieber, Michael Stuhlbarg, Lily Rabe and Robin Weigert. Those of you familiar with American chess professional Bobby Fischer and his story should know a little background behind his second-to-none chess playing in the 20th century before his unfortunate death. Set in the Cold War era, we follow Bobby through his preparation for Russian star, Boris Spassky. With the war going on outside in the battlegrounds, the pair creates their own intensity shown from the 1972 World Chess Championship.
