Movies To Watch This Weekend (August 5, 2016)

Welcome to Suicide Squad!

Without building up a post for you to click on multiple pages, we’re getting straight to the point this weekend. Suicide Squad is the only film releasing this weekend, with the exception of a few animated projects that we’re not going to waste time with. If you’ve been web-surfing, then you’ve probably come across a few negative reviews of the film – citing the DC Universe may be dead.

Well, we’ve seen the film in IMAX 3D (our biggest recommendation for any release over the last three months) and the visual experience is one of the best you’ll have for the entire year. Will Smith (out of Deadshot character) and Margot Robbie had the bulk of screen time; but this was essentially an introduction to the cast, for future solo spin-offs that are currently in the works.

Our only gripe with the movie, was that we wish Jared Leto had more on-screen time, which many are already saying they were unimpressed with his performance – in comparison to Jack Nicholson and Heath Ledger’s past takes on The Joker. Contrary to previous rumors of Warner Bros. being nervous about the original darker version of its film and eventually making director-writer David Ayer lighten up its mood – Ayer publicly said that this is entirely his vision and version of the release.

To be honest, we really hope its Blu-Ray release has an extended version of at least 30-more minutes of footage with Joker. So, without ruining spoilers for those of you who haven’t read the plot storyline, go to the theaters this weekend with little expectation; because those attendees giving it low ratings were expecting the biggest movie of the year (see: Rogue One).

Also, remember to see it in 3D or IMAX 3D, because the visuals effects alone was worth admission.
