Martin Scorsese‘s passion project Silence has been years in the making, but it will finally be released in December; the first trailer for it has been released this week.
Based on Shūsaku Endō’s 1966 novel of the same name, Silence is a historical drama set in the 17th century, which involves Portuguese Jesuit missionaries travelling to Japan to get to the bottom of a missing missionary.
There’s no Leonardo DiCaprio this time around, but it does star the likes of Andrew Garfield, Liam Neeson, Adam Driver and Ciarán Hinds. It took around eight months to shoot in Taiwan, with Driver losing 50 pounds for the role and along with Garfield, going through seven-day silent retreats at a Jesuit house in Wales.
