The Avengers x Spider-Man
At last, Spider-Man is finally getting its proper Marvel makeover. Over the last 15-plus years, Disney has been in charge of the unfortunate watered-down version of Spider-Man starring Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone. With The Amazing Spider-Man series thankfully seeing a breath of fresh air with a recast for its pending relaunch with Marvel on July 28, 2017. Kevin Feige of Marvel and Amy Pascal have already been tapped to produce the project, which will be bringing Spider-Man into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Sony retains creative control for the Spider-Man series, and will continue to own, finance and distribute future releases with its former foe – and now friend, Marvel Studios. The ultimate question is whether or not Peter Parker will be joining Iron Man, Captain America and the rest for an Avengers 3 release down the road. While Marvel has remained quiet on the possibility of Spider-Man making an appearance with the collective of super-heroes, Sony has seemed to loosen up with its prized possession over the last few months.
In related news, Marvel Studios has re-arranged the release lineup for a few key films. Thor: Ragnarok will now be hitting theaters November 3, 2017, with the Black Panther to follow on July 6, 2018. Later that year, Captain Marvel will make its fourth quarter on November 2, 2018 and the long-awaited Inhumans will debut in theaters on July 12, 2019. Marvel’s Avengers: Infinity War Part 1 and Part 2 remain unchanged, with their May 4, 2018 and May 3, 2019 dates respectively. Stay tuned for more information to unfold in the coming months.
