American Crime

We weren’t sure what to expect from ABC’s American Crime series, but once we got into it, there was no turning back. When you have John Ridley, who was coming off a big win at the Academy Awards for 12 Years a Slave, serving as the shows creator, writer and director of the series, you know something good can come out of it. It wasn’t until after the first season was finally over when we checked it out, thanks to all the raved reviews as for the reason why we did so. It could also be the fact that Andre 3000 is set to star in the show’s second season might have also played a part in that as well.

The show touches on a range of subjects from race, to gender politics and class. The show itself follows a hate crime that is committed and and brings along the stories of various characters and how they are all tied together somehow between this whole ordeal, including the victims and the families of the suspects believed to be involved. There’s plenty of touching moments and things that make you think about how much of everything going on within the show can be related to that of what’s going on in today’s world.

One of our favorite characters in the show had to be Hector Tontz portrayed by Richard Cabral, who played a role that came all to easy to him as it was almost a representation of his past life as a member of a gang, but looking to set things straight once he realizes that’s not the life he wants to live, being a father to a newborn. His performance in the show earned him a Emmy nomination and a spot in the second season of the series as a different character.

With much critical acclaim, it was only right that ABC pick the show up for a second season and will see the likes of Regina King, Timothy Hutton, Felicity Huffman and more returning as series regulars wth the addition of André Benjamin, Trevor Jackson and Connor Jessup joining the cast.

Season two kicks off in 2016 on March 9th.
