With Colorado and Washington state at the forefront of the medicinal marijuana renaissance, Motherboard explores the booming tech sector in Denver to try to understand the science behind it all. From the magic behind growing award winning strains, to the people creating the technology to make it all happen.

The documentary starts in a vegetation room full of thousands of plants and through the process of how each bud is cured, then moves to a dispensary and the vast array of products you can purchase inside of a Casino-like guarded establishment. You’ll also meet Jacob the “budtender,” who caters to each patient that comes in.

Once they start showing the technology being built to extract concentrates and grow rooms with computer based LED lamps or grow box chambers, which are described as “the refrigerator that maintains and stocks itself” (in terms of crops being grown), you’ll understand that full fledged nerdom goes into world class herb. Because this sophisticated innovation is coming from scientists, physicists, doctors, etc.

With research now coming out describing how much Cannabinoids can help towards the fight against autism, other studies have also shown that THC can kill cancer cells while leaving healthy cells in tact. Of course, since the government doesn’t fund research and approve it through the FDA because of its schedule one classification, the plant continues as illegal, even though every year it yields more medical benefits.

But it’s not all scientific. The documentary will also visit a 420 rally and marvel at the future of this industry, live from the High Times Cannabis Cup. Just this year alone, legal marijuana is set to net $1.5 billion, with estimates showing that number quadruple by 2018. Please believe that you’re mind will be blown after watching this documentary.

We might have to make that move to Colorado. Shout out to everyone out there.
