The Series Premiere Of Cinemax’s “The Knick”

OSCAR & Emmy winner, Steven Soderbergh may have a gem for Cinemax in new series The Knick.

HBO’s protégé, Cinemax hasn’t been known for producing that many original series in comparison to its competitors, but have finally found a quality title to pair alongside Strike Back and Banshee. Academy and Emmy Award-winner Steven Soderbergh, is lead director behind the new series The Knick, which stars Emmy-nominee Clive Owen 9 (Dr. John Thackery).

The show had its premiere pilot last night and left an intriguing display look into the early American medical practices, which have helped shaped future medicine usage and groundbreaking surgeries. Set in fictional Knickerbocker Hospital circa-1900 Manhattan, the series has already been picked up for a 10-episode season for next summer, to ensure security of your precious binge watching in the coming weeks.

In New York City in 1900, the Knickerbocker Hospital operates with innovative surgeons, nurses and staff who have to overcome medicinal limitations to prevent staggeringly high mortality rates. Dr. John Thackery, the newly appointed leader of the surgery staff, battles his cocaine and opium addictions with his ambition for medical discovery and reputation among his peers. Harvard graduate Dr. Algernon Edwards must fight for respect within the all-white-populated hospital, as well as the racially charged city. While literally struggling to keep the lights on, the hospital attempts to attract a wealthy clientele, without sacrificing quality care.
