A lot can happen in seven years. How will Atlantic City be different?

We’re still not over the fact Boardwalk Empire‘s 5th season will be it’s final run on cable television. It’s like the would opens and lemon is poured every time we hear new information about the upcoming season, but at least this is somewhat comforting.

In an interview with Den of Geek, Michael K. Williams (Chalky White) revealed a bit of news concerning what’s on the horizon. Apparently, the story will be fast forwarding seven years and taking place in 1931, at the height of The Great Depression. This means everyone on the show is suffering and the Nucky Thompson alcohol trade is around the corner from abolition.

Williams also kept the door open on whether or not he’ll be working with Jeffrey Wright, who played his arch nemesis Dr. Narcisse on the show.

The storyline has jumped seven years [into the future], which is why I have the beard now. The Depression has set in. The days of the shiny shoes and fancy suits are long gone. It ended very badly for Chalky last year. His family life is no more, and he is desperately seeking Dr. Narcisse to settle old scores.

With despair and struggle, we can only imagine the lengths the characters will go to make sure they “settle scores.” We’ll never know what it’s like to live during the depression, but you can guarantee they’d do things by any means necessary. Especially Nucky Thompson, who will ultimately see his demise on the show like he did in real life.

It’ll be interesting to see how things end in Atlantic City leading to the final episode.
