Richard, The Compassionate Father Figure
Since Jimmy Darmody’s death in season two, Richard has stepped in as the replacement father to his son, Tommy. They always talk about memories of his (real) mom and dad, he listens to what Tommy has to talk about and most importantly, looks out for him (even when it’s a matter of life and death). As the years have moved on, Tommy has grown to look up to Richard, and it’s all come full circle in season four.
It looks like he and Julia Sagorski are finally going to be together after turmoil between them, and can file for full custody of Tommy once they marry. If Julia doesn’t tie the knot, she could lose Tommy in court to his paternal grandmother Gillian.
Richard turns real Eminem in 8 Mile with his little sister-ish when he’s around Tommy.
