TIP to Star in A+E’s ‘Roots’ Miniseries

Are you in favor of the Roots series being resurrected?

As 2016 inches closer, A+E continues to get big names for its upcoming Roots remake. The four-night, eight-hour miniseries event will now has rapper TIP Harris joining the cast alongside the likes of Mekhi Phifer, James Purefoy, Matthew Goode, Lane Garrison, Emayatzy Corinealdi and G. Hannelius. The Atlanta rap legend is set to assume the role of Cyrus, a headstrong slave, who’s looking at to finally gain freedom with the Union Army against Confederate forces.

The reboot to the 1977 original will be a four-night event, consisting of 8 total hours, will be shown on A+E networks, including Lifetime and History Channel at some point next year.

Those previously mentioned actors, now join the already announced cast of Forest Whitaker, Anna Paquin, Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Laurence Fishburne, Anika Noni Rose, Chad L. Coleman, Erica Tazel, Derek Luke, Malachi Kirby and Regé-Jean Page. Roots lead drummer, Questlove, has also been tapped to handle executive music producer duties for the project.
