It seems like the ’90s are making a big impact on today’s culture, with plenty of artists paying homage to the sound of the era and/or style from back then.
VH1 is capitalizing on the movement with an original movie of their own called The Breaks, set in New York City in 1990 as hip-hop was taking over the city and the world. The film will follow a handful of people who are trying to make it in the business in their own respective lanes, whether it’s by producing, working at a record label or being a journalist.
The Seith Mann (Homeland, The Wire, The Walking Dead) directed film is inspired on Dan Charnas’ best -selling book The Big Payback and includes a cast of Method Man, Mack Wilds and Wood Harris. Lookout for the nostalgic hip-hop film to hit theaters on January 4.
