Suicide Squad 2 on the way!
One of the more unusual moves in Hollywood this decade, was when Will Smith decided to once and for all abandon the Independence Day franchise and partner up with Warner Bros. to join the DC Extended Universe. He soon contributed to Suicide Squad’s $700 million box office worldwide gross over the summer, which has an official sequel set in place. Last week, at Facebook Headquarters, Will opened up on his choice for DC Comics over Independence Day: Resurgence – which under-performed in comparison to its original release 20 years ago.
“I had the two screenplays in front of me for the Independence Day 2 and for Suicide Squad. I had to choose between the two of those. Even the choice of going to Suicide Squad — nothing about the qualities of the movie — but the choice of trying to go forward versus clinging and clawing backwards. I do want to aggressively go forward and do new things and create and hopefully be able to stumble upon a new heyday.”
Considering how much of an impact Deadshot had this year over Captain Steven Hiller, it’s safe to say Mr. Smith made the right choice. Stay tuned for the official Suicide Squad sequel.
