Will Smith Speaks Out About Oscars’ Diversity Controversy

All the talk this past week has been how the Oscar nominations are “too white” and there is not enough diversity in the people representing certain categories.

People like Spike Lee and Jada Pinkett-Smith have come forward to speak their thoughts on the controversy and today, Jada’s husband Will Smith (someone who was snubbed for his role in Concussion) spoke to Robin Roberts about the topic.

In his interview, he confessed that his wife did not alert him about the video she made because he was out of the country, his thoughts at how Hollywood is regressing in their portrayal of actors in the nominations nowadays and how when he was nominated in previous roles, he ended up losing to Denzel Washington and Forest Whitaker. He doesn’t knock the actors that are nominated in certain categories this year because they’re all deserving, but he does feel like something needs to be said about the lack of minorities being represented.
