A First-Time Experience At Bestival
Last Wednesday, I headed down to the Isle of Wight for this year’s Bestival celebrations. Living on the outskirts of London, this meant for a close to six-hour journey by train, bus, ferry and foot. Luckily, myself and three others were able to reach the island a day early to stay in a family home, giving us a chance to beat the rush. Come early Thursday afternoon, we were already in the festival grounds after a full-English breakfast had us set for the weekend, ready to camp with around 20 others who arrived that day.
My experience from Thursday to Monday morning was a special one, and was arguably the best overall festival I’ve attended. A mere two weeks before, I headed to Liverpool for my second time at Creamfields, which, for those who don’t know, is an entirely electronic festival. A large majority of the DJs who perform in tents are worth the time and energy, but on the other hand, the main stage is filled with typical EDM figures who press a button or two.
As someone who enjoys music from all genres, Bestival had it all. From classic hip-hop acts, leading vocalists of our generation, an entire lineup dedicated to house lovers and a taste of 70s soul, the festival truly is your oyster. And the best part is, everyone is just looking to have a great time. With such a packed lineup, I did manage to miss some pretty regrettable names, but we do have a taste of how the weekend went down.
Here’s 10 of many acts we saw over the course of the weekend.
