2013 OnSMASH Staff Picks: Albums

Am I allowed to call 2013 the best year of music we’ve seen since ’01-’03? Well I am. A year anticipated right from the jump certainly didn’t disappoint. A lot goes into whether or not I keep albums in rotation throughout a full calendar year. Replay value being #1, followed up by singles, sleepers, features, and the overall sound of the album are just a few to list. Giving J. Cole my favorite album of the year was a tough choice but almost easy from the second I heard it, being it was the most complete album of the year from my perspective. I also liked the “indie-underdogs” a lot this year, sometimes more than the commercial albums. Remember, these are my FAVORITES. I’m not on a Grammy committee by any means, I just like what sounds good. Overall, I think there’s something for everybody in this list.
