It’s a new day for the music industry, especially when it comes to album release days. As it was reported before, the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI) was thinking of moving release days to a global standard and it’s starting on July 10.
Countries like the United States, United Kingdom, France, Germany and Australia will all be releasing albums on Friday to help drive sales (consumer peak usually happens during the weekend) and combat piracy, since currently, some albums are available sooner than others depending on what country you live in. This is a major move for record distribution and the music industry figured they could start in July in case there were any glitches in the system, they could fix in the summer before the holiday push later this year.
Some Asian countries are not yet on board with the unified initiative, but up to 45 countries will participate as of July 10. You can learn more over at their website.
