The Alleged Killer of Big L Gunned Down in Harlem

RIP Big L!

During 1999, when Big L was on the verge of transitioning from the streets to inking a deal with Jay-Z and Dame Dash’s Roc-a-Fella Records, he was unfortunately gunned down.

With his brother Leroy ‘Big Lee’ Phinazee incarcerated at the time, the late Lamont Coleman didn’t have the proper security around him to watch his back, which allegedly stemmed from previous static between the reported killer, Gerard Woodley, and Mr. Phinazee.

Following 17 years since the death of the legendary Harlem rapper, then 46-year-old man, Woodley was shot in the head and back during a clash in front of his home on Thursday evening.

Previously suspected of committing three homicides, all of which he got away with, neighbors near the situation revealed they heard three shots that were fired back to back – including a loud scream.

N.Y.P.D. officers recovered three .25-caliber shell casings at the scene, as the motive for this latest homicide hasn’t been determined. Following the murder of Big L at his uptown home, which we previously mentioned was due to a past relationship fallout between Woodley and his brother, detectives were never able to pin the case on him, due to lack of evidence.

We’re assuming Gerard’s death had to do nothing with the passing of Mr. MVP, which this could be a case of the streets and most of all, bad karma catching up to him after recent years.
