With JAY-Z helping put a new emphasis back on emcees with his work for younger artists behind-the-scenes, Belly has been at the forefront of that wave. The X.O. and Roc Nation rapper released his IMMIGRANT album on Friday, which addressed several issues between Palestine and Israel situations. While dealing with past issues of coming to North America in his childhood, Belly wanted to briefly open up on his life story a few days on Hot 97’s Ebro in the Morning Show.
He touched on how Canada made his family and many more feel welcomed, with the process of leaving his home country of Palestine. This led to discussing his issues with the Israeli government, saying that many things needed to be changed – and isn’t getting enough world news coverage.
So, in that sentiment, this is essentially why he dropped the socially-aware project earlier this weekend. Belly soon touched on not wanting to write for other artists after receiving praise for contributions to hit-singles from The Weeknd. He said only Abel can make songs as The Weeknd and that it was not easy to do making those worldwide records.
