The era of the compact disc is quickly coming to an end this year, with one of the biggest retailers calling it quits on the distribution of them.
According to Billboard, Best Buy will not longer carry physical copies of music albums starting in July, with no details of their reasoning as of yet. One could only assume that plenty of units are not being moved as much as they used to be, thanks to the rise of streaming platforms. Of course, this has been a long time in the making, as the rise of Mp3’s and iTunes wiped out CD’s little by little. Spotify and Apple Music have virtually put the nail in the coffin.
However, the company will still sell vinyl for the nostalgic consumer.
Truthfully, when was the last time you even purchased a CD? Last time we went into Best Buy we hardly knew the section they sold them at. Pour out a little liquor.
