Big Sean Breaks Down “Dark Sky Paradise” Success

One man can change the world

It’s safe to say that Big Sean had a big year in 2015. His album Dark Sky Paradise reached No. 1 on Billboard for the first time in his career and it was fueled thanks to singles like “IDFWU” and “Blessings” taking a life of their own.

Billboard sat down with Sean Don to talk about why this album was different than any previous projects and it was revealed he recorded this one at his house rather than someone else’s studio. He said some of the songs came together with the help of others, who took them to levels he couldn’t have done on his own. No I.D. also joined the conversation to talk about his advice for him this go around, fighting for singles to be pushed, most notably “I Don’t Fuck With You,” which even JAY Z and Beyonce wanted Sean to drop immediately. And the rest is history.

Even Def Jam CEO Steve Bartels had his two cents on why the project was a hit.
